The cooperative difference is people. It is a business model built on values, not profit. The desire for a trusted food source in San Clemente inspired the project to build a cooperatively owned grocery store. The co-op business model not only speaks to the community’s values, but also allows direct oversight of every aspect of the business by members of the community. As a cooperative, SCCM’s plan will always strive to meet the needs and desires of its member-owners while also serving the community at large. Guided by the 7 Cooperative Principles, serving the desire for trusted and local food, creating a means to support the local economy, and providing a platform for education are what drive the development of SCCM.
